"We're in the midst ...

... of a wicked storm at the moment. The situation is worst on the West Fjords where they’ve been having hurricane-strength winds; the power is out in large areas and there is a serious threat of avalanches. Roads around the country have been closed - the road that passes through Kjalarnes (just north of Reykjavík) is shut, as is Hellisheiði heath, en route to Hveragerði. Cars have been blowing off Reykjanesbraut, the road that leads to the airport, since early this morning, and people are being told to stay away if at all possible. However, international flights have not been cancelled, so it’s kind of hard not to travel if you have a flight booked. Domestic flights, on the other hand, have all been cancelled. Personally I pity the poor people who are out at sea right now the most. According to mbl.is there are 114 ships, all of them foreign except one, in the Icelandic jurisdiction at the moment. Meanwhile, some folks are simply taking a lighthearted approach to the whole thing and hopping on the old bike. ICELANDERS I tell ya." - The Icelandic Weather Report, to-day
